White Hot: Our guide to a luxurious long weekend in Ibiza

With wall-to-wall Bentleys outside day club Destino, and Red Bull and vodka making way for bottles of Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque, Ibiza is now one of the most luxurious destinations in Europe. From organic fincas to bikini-and-blow-dry day clubs, the White Isle is perfect for a fun-fuelled weekend getaway.

STAY

Set on the southeast corner of the island, the ME hotel is reached via the pretty town of Santa Eulàlia des Riu. Choose a room overlooking the well-inhabited swimming pool — DJs start spinning their tracks around midday to get the party-ready crowd dancing, but the white, airy rooms are well insulated from the noise. The minibars are made for revellers with little bottles of Moët & Chandon, and rooms are well stocked with Crabtree & Evelyn goodies. The fun begins at the impressive breakfast buffet, with carrot and almond cakes, lomo Iberica and Veuve Clicquot. But it’s the perfect place for a spot of R&R, too, with its spa Cordage offering treatments such as My Daily Dose customised skincare.

A bit further east is the recently opened Nobu. This resort- style hotel puts the emphasis on gastronomy and health. The plant-based café Celicioso has a wide selection of superfood salads, but save some room for the epic sea bass at its Chambao restaurant. Forage for artisanal wares at its boutique, including Nagel wooden sunglasses. You can enjoy a pre-party makeover in the comfort of your room from the masseurs at the Six Senses spa, or head down to the John Frieda salon for a podium-ready blow-dry. For a quieter stay, book into the Ibiza Gran Hotel. Super-comfortable and minimalist, it’s a calming antidote to the party scene. While there, visit restaurant La Gaia for “Japeruvian” cuisine by newly appointed chef Óscar Molina.

EAT

The island has a wave of farm-to-table, organic-based restaurants and haciendas. With its beautiful countryside setting, La Granja is very much on-trend, providing lectures on biodynamic farming and a menu packed with home-grown delights. Or head to Plaça dels Desemparats in Dalt Vila, Ibiza’s old town, where chef Anne Sijmonsbergen has opened her first restaurant with restaurateur Justin Mallett. Feast on modern Ibizan dishes such as juniper-encrusted pork tenderloin, steamed mussels with samphire and courgettes. Alternatively, enjoy the spoils of the sea and an organic lunch at Aiyanna. Perched on Cala Nova bay in the north of the island, take in the panoramic views across the sea from its wood-decked terraces. Putting the party into daytime eating, Blue Marlin still pulls in the glamorous crowds, all Louboutin heels and chic summer dresses. Here mounds of sashimi are washed down with ice cold champagne. Swimwear-fabulous seafront dining can also be had at Il Chiringuito, which was awarded best beach restaurant in Ibiza last year in the Best of Ibiza awards. Try its tasty fattoush salad or beech wood smoked salmon.

At night, Pikes still attracts the party people. Run by Dawn Hindle and husband Andy McKay of Ibiza Rocks, it is a charming retreat by day and a whimsical party destination by night — and where to head to for succulent pork and a fine house red. At midnight, the taxis start pulling up with the rave-ready brigade. Bring your flats for all-night dancing.

DRINK/PARTY

Start the evening at The Experimental Beach, whose hidden location in the wetlands of southern Ibiza is a draw for the soigné early evening crowd. Sip on a Monte Azul cocktail as the sun sets. Then head to Hi! by Ushuaia for some serious clubbing. Opened just last year, its sequin festooned Friday night Glitterbox is a must for hedonistic glam and classic house and disco.

DO

Shopping is a treat in Ibiza. Floaty dresses, kaftans and Gucci trainers are de rigeur here, but the shops in the old town are full of finds. Campos de Ibiza has an array of beaded bracelets, scented lotions and perfumes such as fresh mandarin. For standout jewellery, check out the gold vermeil and enamel pieces by Victoria Deny Jewelry. Its Bones Cubes Cu (€330) and Pebble Heart Pendant (€295) are particularly lovely. Charo Ruiz, meanwhile, in Eivissa at Passeig de Vara de Rey 4, is a must for white cotton clothing and light, floaty fabrics. Otherwise, for an authentic taste of Ibiza, pick up some hierbas, the local herbal digestif. Ibiza salt is famous, too, although the turquoise pot is more of a find than the salt itself perhaps.

Wellness has taken the island by storm — not all calories are burned off on the dance floor here these days. The Body Camp and the No. 1 Boot Camp are both perfect for whipping fitness fiends into shape.
