For all the advantages travel has to offer, it’s not always easy keeping up a fit and healthy lifestyle whilst away from home. Calorie-laden meals in restaurants, extensive room service options, unappealingly out-of-date machinery in afterthought gyms and the general inclination to indulge can take their toll during a hotel stay.
Find Your Shangri-La: Wellness comes to The Shard
30th June 2017
The Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard is launching a new wellness programme, combining fitness, mindfulness and nutrition with unparalleled views of London
As a result, the Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard has just launched a comprehensive new wellness programme dedicated to helping guests stay healthy both inside and out, together with the aid of elite fitness experts, professional nutritionists and mindfulness gurus. What’s more – serenely floating above the clouds between floors 34 and 52 of the iconic skyscraper – the Shangri-La is uniquely positioned as an ‘oasis of calm’ in London, complete with unparalleled views of the capital. There are definitely worse places to find inner peace.
‘Find Your Shangri-La’ can be tailored to suit a guest’s specific wellness needs. Exercise can now be done in the privacy of one’s own room at the click of a button, as a series of workout videos from Dan Roberts (strength and conditioning coach to the stars) and his team cover HIIT, mobility and yoga flow, although one-on-one personal training sessions can also be booked for the Shangri-La gym. Dietician/chef Clare Gray has devised a nutritious yet delicious wellness menu, covering everything from smoothies and energy balls to Asian-inspired chicken and fish dishes. A must for today’s hectic city lifestyle, mindfulness tips by renowned meditation guide Michael James Wong are also available, whilst a twice-weekly ‘Run Club’ offers a choice of three attractive routes along the Thames.
General Manager Paul Brackley comments that the initiative was created “to support a fully-rounded wellness experience that takes care of the mind and spirit just as much as the body. With the Global Wellness Institute noting ever-growing wellness trends that have the potential to change the way we live our lives, the need for a balanced approach to health and fitness is ever more apparent.”
Additionally, over the course of the summer, both resident and non-resident guests can pick and choose from a full calendar of wellness events, from sunset yoga by the infinity pool to primal movement classes and Q&A talks with experts.
