Whatever the occasion, a spot of pampering is always a good idea at this luxurious hotel, where the Ten Trini-Tea package combines wellness with indulgence

In among the bustle of the City, with views of famous sites Tower Bridge and the Tower of London, the Four Seasons Hotel at Ten Trinity Square is an icon in itself. Occupying the former Port of London Authority HQ, the building was recently transformed into a top luxury destination in a multimillion pound renovation – and the spa is newer still, marking the latest addition to the hotel’s five-star offering. If you haven’t yet made a visit, there’s no time like the present.

Conceptualised by Italian designer Joseph Caspari, the elegantly minimal spa space, shimmering with mirrored mosaics and decorative silver vines, comes with a lap pool, vitality pool, saunas, steamrooms and a luxury Hamman. A 24-hour fitness centre with state-of-the-art equipment is also available, for those so inclined, as well as a studio for yoga and personal training.

However – today we’re not here to sweat or strain, but rather to lose the best part of a Saturday trying out the Ten Trini-Tea Spa Day experience. Combining the best bits of the pampering spectrum, the package includes both relaxing wellness and unabashed indulgence. We start off with a personalised 60-minute massage, where the masseuse chooses a fragrant oil to suit your tastes and concentrate on the areas of the body you would like worked on, at your own perfect pressure. After re-robing and nibbling on some healthy snacks in the relaxation room, there’s opportunity to make use of the spa facilities, from having a swim or steam to simply curling up with a magazine for an hour or two, as we did.

Once ready to face the outside world again, leave the spa for the airy, art deco-styled Rotunda lounge, where a Bright Young Things Afternoon Tea will be waiting on your starched linen-topped table. Finger sandwiches and fluffy scones are served alongside a colourful array of delicate French pastries in fanciful forms, inspired by the Roaring Twenties. The serving certainly generous to say the least, but it was no hard task working our way through the mountain of sweet treats before us to the soothing sounds of the Rotunda’s piano player. In regards to drink, guests are spoiled for choice with teas, of course, though a crisp glass of Charles Heidsieck Clos Des Millenaires 1995 brut champagne really adds a special touch.
