The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail takes inspiration from a private yacht

The second chapter in the world of the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is a beautiful thing to behold. SPHERE were fortunate to have a sneak preview at Goodwood before this one-of-a-kind car was unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2022.  The car was entirely hand-built, commissioned by a patron of the arts whose family business started in the pearling industry. This limited-edition automobile was inspired by the world of racing yachts. With the same twin-turbo 6.75 litre V12 engine as the Phantom under the hood, the windscreen recalls classic speedboats while the rear ‘deck;’ is covered in Caleidolegno veneer, a material usually applied to the dashboard. In the company’s own words this is ‘a nod to the typical wooden construction of yachts - both old and new’.

The shimmering mother-of-pearl oyster finish with soft rose hues and the contrasting cognac-coloured bonnet are gorgeous to behold and the whole vehicle has a timeless, retro feel to it. The craftsmanship is second to none with iconic Pantheon grille is milled from a single solid billet of aluminium. The private client must have had a lot of fun commissioning it and working with the Rolls-Royce Coachbuild Designers - they clearly have both delicious taste and a palpable sense of fun. We particularly loved the rear deck butterfly design with everything you need for a heavenly picnic,  including a refrigerator designed to hold Armand de Brignac champagne bottles and a fold-out parasol which can be fashioned at any angle. This car will swivel heads wherever it travels.
