In need of ideas for your next big trip? Look no further than Belmond Hotel Monasterio and Belmond Las Casitas for travel inspiration
A serene retreat in the Andes, Belmond Las Casitas is nestled by the stunning Colca Canyon. As the name suggests, casitas (aka ‘small houses’) replace conventional rooms, offering privacy and seclusion while allowing guests to take in the beautiful natural surroundings. Indulgence is found at the Spa Samay – be sure to try the Altitude massage or Turu Mud body Masque – or a simple soak in a private heated plunge pool, aided by a bath Butler. More intrepid types can set out on a trek mounted on a Peruvian Paso horse, take a tour of the Condor Cross viewpoint to spot Andean condors, or explore nearby towns by bike.
Over in the south-eastern city of Cusco, moments from Plaza de Armas, Belmond Hotel Monasterio combines traditional charm with a contemporary appeal. Housed in a historic monastery – also a protected national monument – the hotel contains 122 rooms and suites, a beautiful courtyard to relax in, and an unparalleled collection of 18th century colonial religious art.
Having worked alongside the local Ccoñamuro community since 2010, Belmond Hotel Monasterio also offers once-in-a-lifetime experimental tourist experiences for guests, allowing them to explore the native district for themselves, learn its history and get a rare glimpse into the Ccoñamuro’s traditional lives. This special visit (which runs from April-December) includes transfers from the hotel, along with a tour of Baroque churches and sites of interest along the way, as illustrated by a dedicated guide. Once at the Ccoñamuro settlement, Belmond guests can take part in various activities relating to agriculture and textiles, before tucking into a delicious meal prepared in true Peruvian style.
