Is growing older a barrier? Despite what many people think, Auriens Chelsea are trying to change minds and embrace later life with their podcast – The Third Act. Hosted by writer and journalist, Catherine Fairweather, the podcast unlocks secrets of ageing gracefully and living life well. Recently Catherine welcomed Susannah Constantine, a fellow writer and journalist, to the sound booth. The episode explores Susannah’s journey with sobriety, her memoir “Ready for Absolutely Nothing” and the stories of her life. From childhood and career kick-offs in Madison Avenue, to marriage and motherhood.

For those who don’t know, Susannah is quite the industry icon – and continues to be at the age of 62. After beginning as a teacher, Susannah took to screens with the BBC. Hosting her show, What Not to Wear, alongside her fashion partner Trinny Woodall (now the founder of up-and-coming beauty brand Trinny London) for five years. Between books, designers and busy days behind a microphone and/or camera, how does Susannah feel about later life? You’ll get all of the answers in her episode of The Third Act.

Whilst The Third Act was created to tackle the taboo topic of later life for those facing it, the episodes can be an inspiring listen for younger audiences.  Now a successful fashion journalist, Suzannah explains how she got into the role. Mentioning that she was an “early influencer” and “kind of it girl.” When asked what she liked about being older, Suzannah answered: “I don’t like anything about being older, I’m honest. I’m always thinking I can do better in everything. I’m a terrible people pleaser, still that. But I feel such joy knowing that I can give my children what my parents never could. I get such a kick out of that.”

As we grow older, many invest in “tweakments” to fill in the lines and cling onto youthful looks. Particularly within the fashion industry. Suzannah, however, has taken a unique stance and stayed all natural. “I don’t embrace it. I hate it. But if I’m honest, I just sort of can’t be bothered. It’s so expensive and time consuming,” said Suzannah. “It’s just bizarre, isn’t it?” Listen to Suzannah’s stories and views in full on her episode of The Third Act podcast, linked below via Spotify.
