A Look inside The Stafford
A haven of curated luxury and characterful history dating back to the 17th century, The Stafford London's 5* spaces are brimming with stories to be explored. Below ground are 380-year-old wine cellars that once doubled up as an air raid shelter during World War II and which preserve one of London’s most complete wine collections to this day. The broad history and collections of the wine cellars make The Stafford London a must-visit spot for any avid wine connoisseurs to enjoy a vintage bottle selected by a sommelier, or to immerse themselves in a wine tasting held in the cellars. And, of course, there is also the famed American Bar, one of only two American Bars left in London to retain this original name. Initially catering to the vast inflow of travellers from the US in the 1940s, The American Bar now serves cocktail classics to its patrons, with every available wall, surface and square inch of ceiling displaying an intriguing collection of artefacts, knick-knacks and signed celebrity photographs, all of which have been lovingly donated over the years.

The interiors of the rooms and suites differ between The Stafford London's multiple buildings, but all offer a plush and crisp environment with a traditional edge. The rooms of the Main House offer a blend of Victorian grandeur and modern comfort, incorporating tasteful florals, lavish quilted bedding, deep magenta accents and prints of vibrant botanical drawings. The hotel’s award-winning restaurant, The Game Bird, boasts informal elegance within a relaxed and stylish setting. Executive Chef, Jozef Rogulski, has put heads together with Northcote’s Michelin-starred Executive Chef, Lisa Goodwin-Allen, to create a menu of exceptional modern British dishes from only the finest local produce and artisans – the showstopper being the Sunday Roast, a British staple. Served each Sunday from 12.15pm to 3pm, guests can enjoy a mouth-watering three course lunch – fulfilling any cravings for a plateful of home comfort. From pink-tailed vanilla mice and decadent coffee choux buns to uniformly laid finger sandwiches and decorative cakes topped with shards of honeycomb, the Afternoon Tea spread at The Stafford London is as delicately whimsical as it is varied. Accompanied by either a teacup or a fizzing flute, the broad tea selection including St James specialty blends is as wide-ranging as the champagne list. The choice is yours.
