With his eagerly awaited reunion with Martin Scorsese on the movie ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ due out later this year, Leonardo DiCaprio has announced another blockbuster project. As a committed environmentalist, he has purchased a stake in the French company Champagne Telmont, who have committed to creating exceptional Champagnes from ancestral vines.
“Champagne Telmont, together with its partner wine-growers, has set its sights on producing 100% organic champagne, ensuring a completely sustainable production lifecycle in the coming years" explains DiCaprio. "From protecting biodiversity on its land, to using 100% renewable electricity, Champagne Telmont is determined to radically lower its environmental footprint, making me proud to join as an investor.”
The French champagne house was founded in 1912 and is now part of the Rémy Cointreau group. Eric Vallat, CEO Rémy Cointreau, welcomed DiCaprio to Telmont. “I am delighted to welcome Leonardo DiCaprio to our beautiful House. He carries, with its own aura, a commitment, and values at the service of sustainable and responsible development. These values, which are also ours, are perfectly reflected in our attachment to the terroir and in our ambitions.”
This is only the latest in a series of green initiatives for Champagne Telmont. They already use exclusive 100% recyclable green bottles, use wind-powered transport rather than air freight, use electricity from renewable sources and have removed gift boxes to avoid waste. They aim to convert 100% of their vineyards to organic agriculture by 2031.
