The whisky brand has partnered with artist Kristjana S Williams, creating distinctive packaging with a spirited appeal for its signature Scotch

In news that’s guaranteed to lift the spirits, Royal Salute has revealed a fantastical new makeover for its signature 21 Year Old Scotch whisky, courtesy of fine artist Kristjana S Williams (who has previously worked with the likes of Penhaligons, Fortnum & Mason and the V&A).

Illustrated lions, elephants and exotic birds from the British Royal Menagerie gambol over the freshly designed packaging, a nod to Royal Salute’s royal heritage – as aficionados may know, the Chivas Brothers-owned brand was established to mark the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and named for the 21-firearm salute shot to honour her on the day.

In addition to the smart new look, Royal Salute has launched two additions to the 21 Year Old collection – a first for the company. Joining the world-famous flagship Signature Blend are The Malts Blend and The Lost Blend, both crafted by Royal Salute’s master blender, Sandy Hyslop.

The Malts Blend is the brand’s first ever blended malt, made with a rich combination of over 21 fine single malts. Meanwhile, The Lost Blend makes for an intriguing, peaty dram with rare whiskies sourced from ghost distilleries (aka distilleries no longer in production). All three 21 Year Old Scotches are encased in glazed porcelain bottles, each with its own jewelled colour (sapphire, emerald or obsidian) to reference a precious stone set in the Imperial State Crown.
