Perrier-Jouët Arts Salon winner to stage exhibition

Known for her extraordinary hand-woven creations, Central Saint Martins alumna and London-based artist/textile designer Rita Parniczky scooped this year’s Perrier-Jouët Arts Salon prize to widespread acclaim. Now, she’s preparing for her first solo exhibition at Contemporary Applied Arts in Southwark later this month, showcasing a mix of hanging woven textiles with framed and sculptural works. 

Curated by Arts Salon Member Julia Royse, the exhibition will showcase Parniczky’s mastery of her translucent textiles as the woven surfaces glow and react when exposed to light. Her designs are reminiscent of the structures hidden within organic and architectural forms, creating a new take on the curved, flowing lines synonymous with Art Nouveau.

The prestigious Arts Salon award was founded by Perrier-Jouët in 2013 as a means of supporting emerging creatives in the British crafts sector. As the champagne house has a longstanding association with Art Nouveau – going back to 1902, when artist Émile Gallé designed the brand’s iconic Belle Epoque bottle – the award requires entrants to demonstrate a contemporary approach to Art Nouveau and its nature-inspired aesthetic.
