Exhibition: Les Lalanne: Makers of Dreams

An extensive survey of the work of the late legendary French artistic duo. 

An exhibition of French artistic duo François-Xavier and Claude Lalanne – known collectively as ‘Les Lalanne is currently showing at Claridges Art Space until 29th July 2002.  

The couple began attracting public attention in Paris during the 1960s when Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé commissioned them. The themes explored by the two went against the Abstract art of the 1960s with Francois-Xavier proclaiming on behalf of the couple, “The supreme art is the art of living.”

Known for their surreal sculptures, François favoured oversized animals as his while Claude preferred intricate plant life. on. Over the years, they produced “elephants, donkeys, rabbits, bears, and ducks that doubled as small tables, desks, bathtubs, chairs, and stools.”

Presented in collaboration with Ben Brown Fine Arts and choreographed by famed Italian designer Manfredi della Gherardesca, this unprecedented exhibition of over 100 works will include some of Les Lalanne’s most important sculptures.
